Frequently asked questions

Is this HSPT practice test really free?

Yes. The complete 298-question test is free to take right here online with no signup, and you get your score the moment you finish. A free account adds an explanation for every question and unlimited full-length tests.

How is this different from a printable HSPT PDF?

A printable PDF makes you time yourself and grade by hand, and it cannot tell you which topics are costing points. This online test scores instantly, shows a readiness band right away, and, with a free account, explains every question and pinpoints your weakest section. It is the same 298-question format, with the feedback a PDF cannot give.

Are there free HSPT practice tests with answers?

This one has answers and a written explanation for every question after you finish. Most free HSPT practice tests online only give a score; ours shows the correct answer and why, which is where the improvement actually happens.

Is the HSPT hard?

The HSPT is challenging mostly because of its pace, about 16 to 42 seconds per question depending on the section, not because the material is advanced. It covers 8th-grade Verbal, Quantitative, Reading, Math, and Language. Timed practice is what makes it feel manageable on test day.

What is a good HSPT score?

HSPT scores are reported as a national percentile from 1 to 99 (built on a scaled score). A percentile at or above 75 is competitive at most Catholic high schools, and many honors or scholarship cutoffs sit around the 85th to 95th percentile. See our full guide to HSPT scores for the conversion chart.

How long is the real HSPT?

The HSPT has 298 questions across five sections (Verbal Skills, Quantitative Skills, Reading, Mathematics, and Language) and takes about two and a half hours. This practice test uses the same 298-question structure.

Can I take more than one practice test?

Yes. Create a free account to take unlimited full-length tests across our full 800+ question bank, with your scores saved and a weak-spot breakdown after each attempt.
