STS doesn't publish an official table converting raw scores to percentiles, and it shifts slightly by test form. GTS Academics built this estimate from published score interpretations and percentile bands reported by schools, so treat it as a close planning estimate, not your child's official score.

How is an HSPT score calculated?
Every correct answer earns one point and there is no penalty for wrong answers, so your raw score is simply the number of questions right out of 298. STS converts that raw score to a scaled score from 200 to 800, then reports it as a national percentile from 1 to 99 comparing your child with 8th graders nationwide.
What percent correct is a good HSPT score?
Around 72 percent correct lands near the 75th national percentile, the mark most Catholic high schools consider strong. About 85 percent correct reaches the 90th percentile, where merit scholarships are commonly decided.
Is there an official HSPT score conversion chart?
No. Scholastic Testing Service does not publish an official conversion from raw score to percentile, and the exact mapping shifts slightly with each test form. The chart on this page is an estimate built from published score interpretations, close enough for planning, not an official score.
What HSPT score do you need for a scholarship?
Most published HSPT merit scholarships start at the 90th national percentile, with top awards around the 96th to 99th. Our scholarships directory lists the exact published criteria, school by school.
What is the highest possible HSPT score?
The scaled score ceiling is 800 per section, and percentiles top out at the 99th. On raw score, a perfect test is 298 out of 298, but a 99th percentile result does not require a perfect paper.
