Why some states and cities aren't here yet

A blank state on the map is not necessarily a gap in our research. It usually means one of three things. Some dioceses (New York City, most of Texas, parts of California) primarily use a different entrance exam, like TACHS or ISEE, instead of the HSPT. Others publish merit awards based on HSPT percentile but never state the exact percentile cutoff online, just language like "top scorers"; those schools are still worth calling directly. And a growing number of large archdioceses, including Denver, Seattle, and Atlanta, told us in our research they've moved away from merit awards tied to percentile entirely, toward aid programs based on need (often called ACE or similar) that weigh family finances over test scores. Smaller and rural dioceses, by contrast, tend to publish the cleanest tables mapping percentile to dollar amount, with Scranton, Green Bay, and Wichita among the most transparent we found.

Important: GTS Academics is a practice platform. We are not affiliated with any school, diocese, or the test publisher, and nothing here is a prediction or promise of an award. Scholarship decisions are made solely by each school, criteria change every year, and most awards also consider grades and interviews. Always verify with the school.

How to prepare for a scholarship level score

Scholarship tiers are decided by percentile, and percentile is decided by preparation. Start with a free full length practice test to see where your child stands, learn how the scoring works, and follow the 8 week study plan to raise the weakest section first. A free account tracks each attempt's percentile on a Progress page, so you can see whether the score is actually closing in on a school's cutoff.

Frequently asked questions

How do HSPT scholarships work?

Many Catholic high schools award merit scholarships based on HSPT results, most often the national percentile composite. Schools publish their own criteria, typically tiers such as the 90th to 94th and 95th to 99th percentile, and most awards renew each year if the student keeps a required GPA.

What HSPT percentile do you need for a scholarship?

It varies by school. Published criteria in this directory start as low as the 76th percentile, but most schools begin merit awards around the 85th to 90th percentile, with the largest awards at the 97th to 99th.

How much scholarship money can an HSPT score earn?

Published awards in this directory range from a few hundred dollars to full tuition. Because most awards renew for all four years, a $4,000 per year award is worth about $16,000 over high school.

Are these scholarships guaranteed if my child reaches the percentile?

No. Schools decide awards, criteria change every year, and many schools also weigh grades, interviews, or testing at their own campus. Always confirm directly with the school's admissions office.
